Promote Whatever You Want On My Blog

In one of the Yahoo groups I participate in, someone has complained of seeing too many posts about my book. Mea culpa, mea culpa.

To atone for my shameless self-promotion, I'm making everyone out there in the blogosphere this offer: feel free to plug whatever you want by commenting on this post.

For the next two days, I'll leave this post at the top of my blog.

There is only one rule: you cannot promote anything for me.

Aside from that, you can promote whatever you want. Own a pizza shop? Writing a book? Get a promotion at work? Getting married? Is your wife pregnant? Are you starting you own business? Is your band playing somewhere soon? Got a blog you want people to read?

Don't limit yourselves here. Just run with it.

Brian, what a cool opportunity! Thank you for the opportunity and for being so generous. I would like to promote my debut novel, Nora's Soul. Here's the blurb:

When angels of light and dark collide on earth…
Once he held a favored position in the heavens. But one moment of weakness casts Dante out and now he is cursed to walk the earth, collecting the souls of vulnerable women to buy his way into hell.
All hell breaks loose…
But standing in his way is Peter, an angel of light. Peter is everything Dante is not. Pure, above reproach. And determined to prevent Dante from achieving his goals. Peter will stop at nothing to protect the souls in his charge, even if it means achieving the impossible – leading Dante back onto the right path.
And no one is safe from the fall-out.
Nora Kendall believed in angels. Once. But then she lost her brother to cancer despite all of her prayers – and she lost her faith in all things angelic. Now, she is a lost soul who wanders through life like a sleepwalker, playing it safe and leaving the risk-taking to others.
Kyle Cameron is one of those risks. Burned by a bad marriage, his only concern now is providing a stable life for his children, who are left motherless by the unexpected death of his wife. This means working overtime to grow his architectural firm into a viable business – and leaving the care of his children to the care of someone he trusts. Despite his past connection with Nora, Kyle isn’t certain that she’s the right person for the job. He also doesn’t want to reconnect with her and repeat history.
But fate – and the machinations of two angels – has other ideas.

Are you still waiting to hear back from Lyrical for a yes/no or just a date of release?

Tamara Hughes said...

All right, why not?

I'm Tamara Hughes, and I'm a semi-finalist in the American Title V competition, hoping for my big break.

The American Title V is an international writing competition set up like the TV show American Idol where the public votes to decide who stays and who goes. After 4 rounds of voting, I've made it to the final round. Unbelievable!

There are only two of us left and whoever gets the most votes will have their book published by Dorchester Publishing. Published! I still can't wrap my head around that one.

Please vote. There are only 4 days left - voting ends March 29th.

To view book excerpts, go to www.romantictimes.com.

To vote, send an email to votes@romantictimes.com with the title of the book you'd like to vote for in the subject line. (My title is Once Upon a Masquerade.)

This contest is run by the Romantic Times BOOKreview. They will not share your email address, and no emails will be sent to you.

Thanks Brian for this opportunity to get the word out.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks, Brian! Very generous of you to offer your blog up for promotion.

So, here’s an unedited snippet from the Prologue of my upcoming release, Born of Darkness, a Paranormal/Dark Fantasy novel:

As he traveled swiftly through the dark realm among the lost souls who inhabited it, the lesser spirits paid homage to him, parting to make way for his passage. Even the spirits of the damned who dwell in the hidden realm know enough to acknowledge power and wisdom when it’s in their midst. His demeanor remained subdued as he streaked past the lesser ones, although the tribute stroked his considerable ego. He hurtled through the thin gray atmosphere of the shadowy place, anxious to reach his destination.

As he travelled, Ahriman evoked the few memories remaining to him of his mortal life in ancient Persia. His was an old soul, and his recollection of his human existence had dimmed, as first centuries and then millennia passed. The memories he did retain were fragmented. He could still recall the brilliant white sands and hot, dry climate of his ancestral home, and he had a vague recollection of his abode—-a stone dwelling built around a shady courtyard. Associated with that were images of richly furnished rooms, where thick carpets covered the floor and tables were set with silver plates and golden goblets. He remembered, too, his sleek and muscular steed, draped in armor, upon which he had ridden into battle. The name of the Persian King under whom he had served was Cyrus, he recalled, but he'd long since forgotten the man’s face. Nor could he remember the faces of the many wives he had taken during his human lifetime, or those of the countless other women he had defiled. Ahriman could no longer even remember the manner of his corporeal death, only the dismal realm he had entered into afterwards, a realm over which he now presided.

Born of Darkness is slated for digital release with Lyrical Press Inc. on June 15th and print release, I believe, sometime in December.

My first release, Ancient Inheritance, is now available in print as well as ebook. Visit my website for details:

I'd just like to mention that my horror novel Ella the Vampire, and my SF novella Parole, are now available for download from Lyrical Press, at this URL:

http://www.OnceUponABookstore.com

Ella is the story of an abused prostitute who is finally able to assert herself when she becomes a vampire, but must then cope with watching everyone she loves, and even the civilizations she lives in, age and die. Readers should be aware that the language is raunchy (I'm describing people in the criminal underclass) and there are some explicit sex scenes, most of them lesbian.

Parole shows future "safehacker" Mel Broward sprung from prison to assist alien archaelogist Neertreffa to access the computers of a long-dead planet. Before long Mel finds himself naked, without equipment, and running for his life from a powerful enemy of Neertreffa's who wants to kill both him and him/her. (Neertreffa is a facultative opportunistic hermaphrodite, male or female at will.) The novella is, let's say, R-rated.

In addition, my SF romance, I Will, is coming from Virtual Tales this spring. Unemployed spacer Art Gordon takes a job on a research starship owned by members of the catlike Tani'Anneray species. All is well enough until Art falls in love with the lowest-status crew member, Choon Sempry. Then all hell breaks loose. (Or all heck -- the book is G-rated.)

Thank you to Brian for this amazing opportunity. I appreciate it.

Change the ( to <.

So when I linked to your page, I did this:

And to make it a link I'd just need to change the ( to <.

Brian, you're a prince. I will promote something here too but at the moment I'm running out the door to have dinner with Peter Rozovksy, if you can believe it.

Meanwhile, I thought maybe you'd already seen all this discussion but the v word is just the made up word that the word verification comes up with for you to type to allow you to post. The one I'm seeing right now, for instance is 'inallfn'. Which I would translate as 'in all fun', which this post of yours certainly is!

Gotta dash.

Brian O'Rourke said...

Seana,

You're too kind calling me a prince.

Historically-speaking, there was a Prince Brian O'Rourke who I believe really pissed off Queen Elizabeth back in the day. That will be the subject of a future blog post.

You're probably already gone, but have a good time with Peter R tonight and tell him I say hi. His is another blog I wish I posted more on. And boy, that guy is better traveled than Ulysses. I don't know how he does it.

Ah, now you have solved the heretofore impenetrable mystery of the v word for me.

Make sure to come back tomorrow and plug whatever you want!

Wow, a lot of great story ideas out there, and my mouth would be watering for Fox's Pizza too, if I hadn't had a pretty big dinner out on the wharf with Peter. I should see him tomorrow so I'll tell him you said hi.

You are a prince, though, for coming up with this idea. I mean, not everyone would have come up with this idea out of the issue of how much self-promoting is too much? And I do look forward to that other Prince Brian O'Rourke post.

My self-promo, since I won't get around to it tomorrow is for a story that just came out on line. It's here . And free. And short.

Foxx Miyamoto said...

TAKE TWO. LOL, had to delete the typo laden first post. Thank you, Brian, for the opportunity to shamelessly promote myself!

I'd like to promote my Point of Distraction series. The first three books are available now at Lyrical Press, the final collection will be available in July 09.

Read the series that prompted You-Gotta-Read-Reviews to say: "The author writes in vivid detail and such heart-wrenching feeling about everyone involved in the story. The reader is given an enticing glimpse into how complicated relationships can be when there are no set boundaries and yet, how simple they can be when the walls come tumbling down."

The First Collection introduces the reader to Ana Welsh and her world. So many men, so little time...Ana's been driven to distraction.

The Second Collection sets up the main conflict in Ana's journey: the man she's meant to be with vs. the man she thinks she's in love with.

The Third Collection brings the series to its climax (no pun intended) and details the turning point in Ana's life when she decides to make some big changes...including turning her romantic life upside down.

The Final Collection brings the series to an elegant finish...don't want to give away too much, but I can promise this--Ana gets her Happily-Ever-After.

Want to know more about Ana and her world? Visit her at www.lyricalpress.com/cindy_jacks. Warning: This series is addictive. Once you start, you can't stop reading it.

I think this should be a monthly thing. And yes, Seana's story was a joy to read.

Nathanael Green said...

Alright, Brian. Since you asked ...

I've got a work in progress right now that I'm really excited about.

My novel River Crow is like Frank Herbert’s Dune set in a fantasy world inspired by Native American traditions. It’s fraught with internal politics and war as the tribes struggle with one another and against an encroaching Bronze Age culture. While most modern fantasy novels are based on feudal Europe, River Crow explores the unique world and characters of a Stone Age culture, while still offering the adventure and magical elements familiar to fantasy readers.

And yes, that's a canned speech about it that I used as an example of an elevator speech on my blog about writing and language - 500 Words on Words.

So two plugs for one? This is awesome.

By the way ... I think we need to take a field trip to Fox's Pizza.

Brian O'Rourke said...

Nater,

Two plugs for one is pretty sweet.

I'm up for a field trip to Fox's Pizza. It's in Kennett Square, the mushroom capital of the world.

seana graham said...

Hey, thanks for reading my story, Brian and Rita. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Especially with these online mags, to say something is published when you don't even have a sample to hold in your hands can feel a bit unreal, so thanks for taking time to read.

Nathanael, I'm looking forward to taking a look at your blog on language. Nice double promo, by the way!

Wonder if Peter R. has ever eaten at Fox's Pizza. I'll have to ask him when I see him today.

Brian O'Rourke said...

Hey Seana,

I'm guessing Peter R. has probably not eaten at Fox's. Kennett Square is at least a half hour, probably longer, from Center City Philly. I'm not sure where Peter calls home, though, so it's possible.

Have fun at lunch today! It's crazy to me you've met him before I have, considering I'm only twenty minutes from CC Philly.

Brian O'Rourke said...

Seana,

One other thing. I know exactly what you mean about fiction not feeling real when it's just online. And that's why books will never die, or at least, not for a good long while.

I read an article on Wired about someone, forget who, who is going to give away his book for free electronically, in the hopes that 5% of readers will buy the print version. That's not a great margin, but if that's what it takes down the road, I'm going to consider it myself.

My name is Shiela Stewart and I write Paranormal/Dark Fantasy Romance. I have ten books out five of which are part of my Darkness series. Here is a taste of my latest release, Tempting the Darkness: book 5 in the Darkness series.

Blurb:
For twenty long years, Cooper Hawthorne has kept the brightest light in his bleak existence a deeply hidden secret. All this time, his beloved Gabriella has slept safely in cryogenic stasis, awaiting the day he finds a cure for her terminal cancer.

As love blooms amidst the Darkness, and still no cure in sight, loneliness drives Cooper to drastic measures. He awakens Gabriella and breaks his last promise to her—by turning her into a vampire.

Gabriella’s sense of betrayal weighs heavily on her attempts to deal with what Cooper has done to her. Pushing him away, she turns to his friends for support—and finds she isn’t the only one hurt by his actions.

Cooper fights the temptation to use his powers to wipe her mind of the damning memories. But, when he comes face to face with the monster that created him, he knows what he must do.

Will Gabriella be able to save him before it’s too late? Or will the Darkness swallow him whole?

Warning: This book could induce intensely heated flesh, rapid pulse, and panting. Should be read in the company of a man who can turn your temptations to delights.

Ok... I'll promote my fantasy erotic romance DESTINY'S JEWEL available from Ravenous Romance (http://www.ravenousromance.com/fantastica/destiny-s-jewel.php)

It's the first of a three book series set on the planet Dolnair. Here's the blurb:

Kyra L'orrac had no desire to be anywhere near a magician, let alone go to bed with one. But that was before she met Ellard J'aron and all her assumptions were turned upside down.

Kyra was committed to her assignment: stay on Earth and guard the sapphire she was given to keep it from the magician who sought it. She knew the reasons magicians weren't to be trusted. But Ellard isn't what she was expecting.

As the incoming vizier, Ellard must retrieve the sapphire, as well as its two sister jewels, and return it to his home on Dolnair. He thought it would be a simple matter of taking it from the navel of the naked woman on whom it rested, but when she turns out to be its guard, his plans are completely changed.

Forced to work together to identify the person trying to overthrow the monarchy and discredit magic, they discover an attraction they can't fight. Kyra has never before wanted a lasting relationship with any man, but Ellard touches her heart - and her body - in unexpected and exciting ways. Ellard feels the same, but those who hold the position of vizier are prohibited from marrying. When he completes his task, he must lose the only woman he has ever loved. Will the memories of their erotic adventures be enough to sustain him when duty calls?

I hope you'll check out the book :) And many thanks Brian for doing this. Perhaps we can work toward a National Shameless Self Promotion Day
