JJ Abrams and Co. Boldly Went Further

Back in November, I was blown away by the first Star Trek trailer.

Just when I thought Abrams and company couldn't outdo themselves, they upped the ante with the recently released final theatrical trailer.

Finally, it appears the studio spent the money they needed to on the special effects budget. This film looks big, in an epic space opera sort of way. I know that story is the most important aspect of a film, but a decent f/x budget goes a long way in fully immersing the audience in the universe of that story.

Whereas the first trailer went for the surprise factor, this one goes for the awe factor. I'm really looking forward to this movie.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Yeah.

They've really outdone themselves. And not only are the special effects looking good, but I really felt some emotion from the characters in the trailer. For example, the shot of "Nero" where he says "I've waited my whole life for this". The way they combined the shots of his face with the voice-over seems like a real character portrait rather than some one-dimensional villain vamping. That's refreshing considering that the last few Star Trek movies have seemed pretty stale and cliche, emotionally.

you're right, it's great! I remember the first Star Trek movie. We got to take off work, the whole department, and stand in long long lines. It was a Wed, I remember it well LOL. Can't wait for the new one!... Alley

Nick,

So many people have already made this comparison, but I really get a Star Wars '77 feel from the trailers. Instead of a "boy and his sword," it's "a young man and his starship."

IMDb lists the run time as 120 minutes. Looks like they're going to cover a lot of ground in 2 hours.

I'm envious. The last Star Trek movie I saw in the theater was... Nemesis.

I wish I could see Wrath of Khan on the big screen someday.

You realize of course that its an odd numbered Trek. Dont get too optimistic.

True, true. But perhaps Nemesis broke the pattern. That was even-numbered one, and it wasn't good.
