Dethroned

Congratulations to Lesli Richardson, as her book Good Will Ghost Hunting: Demon Seed just became Lyrical Press's number one mainstream bestseller. Demon Seed is the first of five books in the series.

Here's the blurb for Demon Seed:

Kalyani Martin is a virgin and has every intention of staying that way despite the overwhelming attraction she feels for the co-host of Otherworlds, her new ghost hunting show.

Devastated by the loss of his wife twenty-five years ago, Will Hellenboek is waiting to die. An archdemon, he bides his time co-hosting Otherworlds with his cousin, Aidan. His instant attraction to Kalyani is simply unacceptable to him. His only goal in life is his death, not sex. And certainly not love.

Ryan Ausar protects Earth from anything that would usurp man's free will. His job becomes much harder when his strongest archdemon stubbornly refuses to come back to work.

When lives are on the line, Kalyani, Will and Ryan must make the choice to give up what they hold most dear. Can Kalyani turn her back on the known world and find a little heaven on Earth in the arms of an archdemon?

The Unearthed enjoyed a nice run atop Lyrical's Mainstream Bestseller List for two months. I'd like to thank those who read it. If you haven't had a chance yet, check it out and see if it might be your thing.

Two months sounds like a good run to me! Does that mean the sequel gets greenlighted? (greenlit?)

Brian O'Rourke said...

Nick,

Yeah, I can't complain. I've written the sequel, I just haven't typed a single word yet.

Speaking of greenlit, when should we make an announcement about the thing with the girl and the camera?

Wow, congrats Brian on your 2 months on the top of the heap! And congrats to Lesli on her new accomplishment, too!

And Brian ... how long are you going to tease us with this sequel before we actually get to read it?

Brian O'Rourke said...

I just realized "girl and the camera" sounds a little weird.

Nate,

I wish I knew, brother.

Very gracious abdication, Brian. That was a good long reign in the E-Book world.

Yes, as to the sequel, enquiring minds want to know.

How can you acknowledge that that girl and the camera thing sounds weird and then continue to leave us all in the dark?

Rita Vetere said...

Hey Brian,

TU is still #1 in my books. Now, about that sequel...

Brian O'Rourke said...

Seana,

Rita Vetere set the "gracious abdication" precedent earlier, so I'm just following in her footsteps.

As for the sequel...there are a couple of other things I'm going to work on first. I realize commercially speaking that's not the best strategy, but my poor excuse for a muse dictates otherwise.

I promise to explain about "the girl and the camera" when it's appropriate, which will hopefully be sometime before I run for the Senate.

Brian O'Rourke said...

Hey Rita,

Thanks for that. But wait a minute - don't you have some great news to share re: Amazon?

seana graham said...

Yeah, my muse is not the most financially savvy of entities either.

I would maybe wait till after you retire from the senate, assuming no one digs this up first.

Rita, the news?

Brian O'Rourke said...

Seana,

I won't go into details but I can say she wasn't a passenger in my car while I was driving my car off a bridge inebriated.

Rita Vetere said...

Oh yeah, the news! It seems Ancient Inheritance hit #10 on amazon.ca's list of Bestselling New Releases for Dark Fantasy. Yay!

(Thanks, Brian and Seana for asking!)

BTW, chatting on June 8th if anyone's got nothing better to do that night :-)

And when did you decide to run for Senate? (I'd vote for ya!)

Brian O'Rourke said...

Rita,

Congrats! And I'm afraid I don't have enough skeletons in my closet to run for public office yet. But maybe someday...

seana graham said...

Congratulations, Rita! Way to climb up the charts.

I'd love to chat with you all some time, but there's a conflict on Mondays and this Monday I don't want to miss the weekly group discussion, as it features the former editor of our local paper, who may have a few choice things to say about the state of newspaper publishing.

But do keep us posted, as this isn't something I always have to go to.

Well done for holding the spot for so long.

I love that word Archdemon by the way. Its such a cool word, makes you think of the power struggles in hell to get to that position.

iCan Kalyani turn her back on the known world and find a little heaven on Earth in the arms of an archdemon? The only problem with this is that we know that the answer is yes. Or actually, "Yes!"

Good point about the archdemon thing, Adrian.

Brian, I don't know that I would vote for you for the senate. First of all, you're already a lawyer, which provides quite enough temptations toward corruption. Second of all, being a senator is an easy excuse to stop writing. Luckily for you, I live in California, so my vote doesn't matter anyway.

Brian O'Rourke said...

Adrian,

Yeah, as if hell weren't bad enough, you've got to fight for your place in the pecking order.

Brian O'Rourke said...

Seana,

If I were to become like most senators, I would probably work less while holding public office than I work right now, which would translate into more writing time.

Of course I'd never get the votes. My politics are kind of whacked out, all-over-the place, so chances are I'd piss everybody off.

Or on the other hand, give everyone a little something, which might just be enough.
